By deciding to transform Eneo into a Cameroonian electricity company (Socadel), Yaoundé intends to tackle the country's energy problems. Beyond the return to public service, the executive competition will be decisive for the future of the new entity.
In Cameroon, on 4 May 2026, the authorities announced the transformation of Energy Of Cameroon (Eneo) into a "public-owned company with the State as its sole shareholder". Oumarou Hamandjoda, who was the Deputy Managing Director of Eneo, took the lead. The newly created Cameroonian Electricity Corporation (Socadel) will, however, face the challenges already faced by its predecessor.
