Yankees Announce Ryan McMahon News Before Blue Jays Series
The Yankees recalled Max Schuemann from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and may use Jose Caballero or Amed Rosario at third base.
On Friday, the New York Yankees placed third baseman Ryan McMahon on the 10-day injured list with a Grade 2 left thumb sprain suffered Wednesday while sliding into second base during a win over the Baltimore Orioles.
Manager Aaron Boone said the precautionary move prevents McMahon from playing "compromised," while McMahon acknowledged feeling only "50%" effective in the batting cage despite hopes to miss minimal time.
The Yankees recalled utility man Max Schuemann from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to fill McMahon's roster spot, with Amed Rosario remaining available as a defensive option at third base.
Cody Bellinger has begun a minor league rehabilitation assignment and could return from his hamstring strain as early as Sunday, though Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton remain without timelines.
Before the injury, McMahon batted.216 with 10 home runs and 32 RBIs in 106 games after arriving from the Colorado Rockies at the 2025 trade deadline.
