Yankees ace Gerrit Cole allows 3 runs and 3 hits over 5 2/3 innings in 3rd minor league rehab start
Cole allowed 3 runs over 5 2/3 innings in his third rehab start as he builds back from elbow surgery.
On Wednesday, New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole completed his third minor league rehab start with Double-A Somerset, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing three runs in a 6-5 loss to the Portland Sea Dogs.
After missing the 2025 season following reconstructive elbow surgery, the 35-year-old right-hander is working to rejoin the Yankees rotation later this year.
Cole threw 60 pitches, striking out three and walking none, though he surrendered two home runs among the three hits allowed during the appearance.
Acknowledging the rehab process, Cole said, "I just have to build such a big base," while expecting at least one more appearance before returning to the majors.
Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe could rejoin the major league club as soon as Friday, while left-hander Carlos Rodón is scheduled for his second rehab start this Thursday.
