Xiaomi YU7 GT Sets Another Nurburgring Record - with Nobody in the Driver's Seat

Xiaomi said the 10:29.483 run was a starting point as it beat other autonomous racing efforts and reached 130 mph on the back straight.

  • Xiaomi recently set the first official autonomous lap record at a German track, completing the circuit with the YU7 autonomously for the first time on June 8th.
  • The company previously established the overall SUV record at the same track with the YU7, before returning to secure this latest autonomous achievement without a driver present.
  • During the autonomous lap, the vehicle reached 210km per hour on the back straight. Xiaomi acknowledged the performance was a starting point, noting the car did not aggressively challenge apexes.
  • Roborace, a series announced by Formula ten years ago, previously claimed to lap within 8% of human drivers, a benchmark closer than the current YU7 performance.
  • Manufacturers including NIO, Porsche, and Tesla have long competed to set records at the over 12 mile track, which remains one of the world's most difficult courses.
