China, Russia Stress Strategic Ties with North Korea in Anniversary Messages to Kim
Xi and Putin pledged closer strategic cooperation with North Korea as Kim marked the country’s 78th founding anniversary, KCNA reported.
- On Wednesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin sent congratulatory messages to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, marking the 78th anniversary of North Korea's founding on September 9.
- Reaffirming close strategic ties with Pyongyang, Xi wrote that defending and developing China-DPRK relations remains the Chinese government's "consistent and unwavering policy."
- In a separate message, Putin vowed to "further consolidate the comprehensive strategic partnership" with Kim, stating stronger ties would contribute to regional security and a "more just, multipolar world order."
- Beyond the major powers, Kim also received congratulatory messages from leaders of Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Mongolia, Sweden, Belarus, Switzerland, Zimbabwe, Singapore, and Equatorial Guinea.
- Referring to his June visit to Pyongyang, Xi said the occasion opened "a new chapter" in bilateral ties, vowing to work with Kim to accelerate development of each side's state affairs.
