Xbox's Disc-to-Digital Feature Is Now Available for Everyone
The update automatically claims a digital license for many discs and lets players keep using the physical copy, Microsoft said.
- A system update released on Sept. 30 enabled the disc-to-digital feature for Xbox Series and Xbox One, with many players receiving access immediately through automatic Updates.
- In the past month, Xbox incorporated feedback from Insiders who received early access to the program, helping the company refine the feature before its public release.
- To digitize a physical disc, players simply insert it into the console; Xbox now automatically claims a digital license when reading the disc. If a hiccup occurs, players hit the Start button and select "Claim digital license."
- Licenses may be revoked if the disc is inserted into another console, with inaccessible items added to the Revoked Digital Games list. Players can verify access through Settings under General, Personalization, and Games.
- Physical disc owners retain their working copy while gaining digital access, giving them an advantage in an all-digital future. Xbox One players can also claim licenses for play on Series consoles using the same account.
