WTA reduces 2027 schedule for world's top 50
The measure comes in response to recurring criticism about tennis' overloaded schedule. Under the current system, the world's top 50-ranked players are obligated to play the four Grand Slam tournaments, 10 WTA 1000 events and six 500 events each year. The WTA is finally taking action against the grueling tennis calendar. Starting next year, the world's top fifty female players will have to compete in fewer tournaments. Furthermore, the women's circuit is permanently bringing the prize money at all joint Masters tournaments in line with that of the men.
