Several hundred inhabitants of Belgian hamlets and a German commune had been ordered to evacuate during the weekend in the face of a historic fire in Belgium.
The large wildfire in the Belgian nature reserve of the High Fens has been contained, authorities told VRT. Emergency services reportedly worked throughout the night using excavators and shovels to dig trenches so that the fire could not spread further. However, the fire is not yet under control, the crisis service emphasizes.
