This 21 March marks the first World Day of Glaciers, a date established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to raise awareness among humanity about the importance of the freshwater reserves of the planet. Faced with the challenges of climate change, the goal of a day to look at glaciers is to alert people to the loss of glacier mass and its social, economic and environmental consequences.
