Man in his 80s dies as fire destroys first floor of London house
Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters tackled the blaze, and police are investigating the circumstances after a man in his 80s died.
- On Saturday night, a man died at the scene of a house fire in Wood Green, London. Emergency services were called to the terraced property on Granville Road at 22:15 BST.
- Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Tottenham, Hornsey, Edmonton, and other stations responded to the blaze. The London Fire Brigade worked to contain the fire throughout the night.
- One woman successfully escaped the house before the LFB arrived, while the blaze destroyed the entire first floor and half of the roof of the two-storey building.
- The Brigade's Control Office took the initial call at 22:15, and firefighters brought the fire under control by 23:30. A man in his 80s died at the scene.
- Following the incident, the Metropolitan Police are supporting the LFB to investigate the cause of the fire. Next of kin have been informed and continue to be supported.
