Woman’s stomach paralysis forces her to eat through her chest
A young woman's stomach became paralyzed due to a rare condition called gastroparesis, which prevented food from moving into her intestines.
Her condition is severe enough that she requires feeding through a Hickman line connected to her chest for 12 hours a day, five days a week.
She receives Total Parenteral Nutrition directly into her bloodstream using a Micrel pump that she carries.
Doctors informed her that she needed this treatment because she was starving to death, and experts have described her use of TPN feeding as extremely rare.
