Florida Deputy Kidnaps Ex in Front of Her Kids, Kills Her and Himself, Detectives Say: "Very Horrific"
Authorities say a 14-year veteran deputy kidnapped and killed his ex-girlfriend after a dispute over belongings, then died by suicide.
On Monday, Pinellas County Sheriff deputy Troy Savetz kidnapped and fatally shot his ex-girlfriend in Hudson following a dispute over a television, according to Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco.
When the woman attempted to call 911, Savetz took the phone from her hand, prompting her children to contact emergency services and identify him as a Pinellas County Sheriff Office deputy.
Investigators launched a search involving aircraft, drones, and K-9 teams after Savetz fled in a rental vehicle, discovering both individuals dead inside the car at about 7 p.m. near Platinum Drive.
Pinellas County Sheriff Robert Gualtieri stated that Savetz, a 14-year veteran, was no longer a law enforcement officer when he committed the crime; the children are now in custody of their biological father.
Sheriff Nocco praised the children for following their mother's instructions during the confrontation, while officials confirmed the victim's name has not been released pending ongoing investigation.
