Woman, 40s, dies after Waterford city assault
Gardaí said the man is detained as investigators appeal for witnesses and prepare a post-mortem after the woman died at hospital.
On Monday, April 27, 2026, a woman in her 40s died following a fatal assault at a residence in the Grange Heights housing estate in Waterford city.
Emergency services and Gardai responded at approximately 6:15pm, transporting the victim to University Hospital Waterford, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at a Waterford Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
The scene is preserved for technical examination while a Senior Investigating Officer leads the investigation and a Family Liaison Officer supports the family of the deceased.
Gardai are appealing for anyone in the Grange Heights area between 6pm and 6:30pm on Monday with CCTV or dashcam footage to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305300.
