Man City Boss Maresca Targets Next Rodri After Midfielder's Exit
Maresca said City will seek a replacement after Rodri, a World Cup winner and Ballon d'Or recipient, left after a seven-year spell.
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca said the club must find a "new Rodri" after the influential midfielder joined Barcelona on Tuesday, ending a seven-year spell at the Etihad Stadium.
Rodri, the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner, departed after winning four Premier League titles and the Champions League, leaving a significant void in the squad inherited from Pep Guardiola.
Recruitment history gives the Italian confidence, as Maresca cited successful replacements of David Silva, Sergio Aguero, and Fernandinho. "They are all similar," Maresca said, noting squad evolution is normal.
High-Profile exits include Bernardo Silva, John Stones, and Nathan Ake, while Savinho heads to Tottenham. City's squad is undergoing considerable change as the transfer window enters its final days.
The club has already signed Elliot Anderson for £116m and may pursue further additions before the deadline. Maresca insisted he is "not worried" about the overhaul, expecting full squad clarity once the window closes.
