Low-Income Mothers and Babies Will Soon Have a Full Year of Medicaid Coverage in Wisconsin
The law aims to reduce preventable maternal deaths, improve health equity, and provide stability and mental health support for thousands of low-income new mothers, officials said.

- Wisconsin becomes the 49th state to extend postpartum coverage, affecting roughly 5,000 women annually. Department of Health Services data shows 95 percent of pregnancy-related deaths are preventable.
- Lisa Payton, founder of the Foundation for Black Women's Wellness, called the law a "critical step toward ensuring that all mothers have access to the care" they need to stay healthy and alive.
