- Organizers chose the theme `Harmony`, according to the Olympics, to create a symbolic space where communities come together and transcend boundaries, Balich said.
- Performers announced include major international stars such as Mariah Carey and Andrea Bocelli, with Carey singing entirely in Italian in her first Olympic performance and having sold more than 200 million albums and won five Grammys.
- About 60,000 spectators are expected to attend the ceremony, with Vice President J.D. Vance leading the U.S. delegation, and NBC will begin live coverage at 2 p.m. ET.
- More than 1,300 performers, including 1,200 volunteers from 27 countries, have rehearsed for months to mount the production, while a device believed to be the Olympic cauldron stood at Arco della Pace on Feb. 1.
