Wilson Scores First Thorns Goal Since 2024 in Win over Angel City
Wilson ended a 17-month scoring drought and lifted Portland to second place in the NWSL with her stoppage-time winner.
On Sunday at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, United States attacker Sophia Wilson scored her first goal since November 2024, sealing the Portland Thorns' 2-1 victory over Angel City FC.
The Olympic gold-medal winner took the entire 2025 NWSL season off for maternity leave after getting married and having a baby, returning to action this season.
Forward Pietra Tordin broke the scoreless deadlock in the 76th minute with a header, while Angel City substitute Prisca Chilufya trimmed the deficit in the 98th minute to avoid a shutout.
Portland moved into second place in the NWSL standings following the victory, sitting two points behind league-leading San Diego Wave six games into the season.
In other league action, the Utah Royals defeated the Seattle Reign 3-0, while Angel City hosts the Utah Royals next Saturday to continue the schedule.
