Williams Lake Business Owner Devastated After Delivery Van Fire Deemed Suspicious
Police say a person of interest was seen near the blaze, and investigators are examining whether it is linked to another recent suspicious fire.
On Saturday, June 13, Williams Lake RCMP responded to a suspicious fire in the 900-block of MacKenzie Avenue South, discovering a Ford E350 van belonging to the Williams Lake Water Factory with significant damage.
Williams Lake Water Factory owner Gwen Balmer returned to find the vehicle destroyed, stating, "What this guy did was absolutely uncalled for—everything is melted," while facing unexpected replacement costs.
Kris Clark of the Williams Lake RCMP described a person of interest as an Indigenous male, 30 to 40 years old, wearing dark clothing and a blue bandana while riding a hardtail mountain bike.
An early morning fire on Tuesday, June 16 caused exterior side damage to Cycle Logic on Oliver Street; Clark stated there is currently no information suggesting the two suspicious fires are linked.
Members of the public with CCTV or dashcam video from either fire are urged to contact the Williams Lake RCMP at 250-392-6211 or Crime Stoppers as the investigation continues.
