New AEW World Champion Crowned
Ospreay ended Omega’s reign after a 30-minute main event and became AEW world champion for the first time.
On Sunday, Will Ospreay defeated AEW World Champion Kenny Omega at Wembley Stadium in London, England, to capture the AEW World Championship for the first time.
Ospreay earned his opportunity by winning the Owen Hart Cup in June, while Omega secured his title reign by defeating MJF on the July 8 episode of Dynamite.
Throughout the main event, both competitors exchanged signature moves including the One-Winged Angel and the Tiger Driver '91, with Ospreay surviving multiple finishers before landing a final Hidden Blade.
Ospreay made history as the first Englishman to win the title on home soil, and the two wrestlers shared an emotional embrace after cameras stopped rolling.
Previously, Ospreay saved Omega from an attack by Jon Moxley and The Death Riders, maintaining ties to the group while preparing for the championship bout.
