Haryana Man, 24, Arrested for Deepfake CCTV Image of Cop Harassing Journalist During CJP Project
Police said Nadeem Ahmed admitted editing the clip with AI tools and faces charges under several Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions.
- On Monday, Delhi Police arrested 24-year-old Nadeem Ahmed for creating and circulating an AI-generated video that falsely portrayed Assistant Commissioner of Police Vivek Bhagat in an objectionable situation with a woman.
- The fabricated footage, uploaded to the News Aina Today Instagram account, featured a person dressed as an officer and displayed Bhagat's name to suggest his involvement. Ahmed admitted he intended to 'tarnish the image of the Delhi Police and create unrest.'
- Cyber police detected the reel on October 4, registering an FIR under multiple Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections. Investigators recovered the mobile phone used to create the content from Ahmed in Mewat, Haryana on October 5.
- Separately, the Delhi government withheld the current duty charge of additional deputy commissioner of police assigned to Bhagat. He requested to opt out until a full inquiry into alleged harassment of women journalists is 'satisfactorily concluded.'
- Authorities are now probing whether the episode was part of a larger, pre-planned conspiracy to spread 'instigation and anarchy.' Investigators are identifying other social media accounts allegedly involved in spreading 'disaffection and dissatisfaction' against the government.
