A Nobel nomination does not amount to an endorsement by the Nobel institutions, with thousands of candidates put forward each year by eligible academics, lawmakers, previous laureates and other recognised experts. Specialist committees assess the nominations and recommend candidates, while the final winners are chosen by the relevant prize-awarding bodies; current nominations remain confidential for 50 years.
