Opposition leaders will meet in Delhi to plan a joint protest over the SIR exercise and seek Gyanesh Kumar's resignation. Akhilesh Yadav's decision to stay away has sharpened focus on Congress-SP strains over the Uttar Pradesh alliance.
The opposition is preparing to launch a front against the government over the Election Commission and SIR, but even before the India Bloc meeting, questions are being raised about its unity. Leaders from several parties, including the Congress, TMC, RJD, and Samajwadi Party, will attend the meeting, but the AAP and DMK have distanced themselves. Akhilesh Yadav and Uddhav Thackeray will also not come to Delhi.
A meeting of the India Alliance has been held in Delhi to unite the opposition against the Narendra Modi government. Several alliance parties were absent from the meeting.
