Police Investigating After Person Seen Wearing White Robe, Pointed Hood on RI Street
Police say the incident appears isolated and no threat to public safety has been identified as investigators review social media video and surveillance footage.
A video circulating online shows a person wearing a white robe and pointed hood walking alone near the Main Street gazebo in West Warwick around 2 a.m. Monday, prompting a police investigation.
Witness Ryan Fitzgerald recorded the footage while in his car with Sean; when the figure looked directly at them, Fitzgerald told WJAR, "Honestly, me and Sean were just like, 'holy crap, like, I gotta get the hell out of here.'"
Leslie Letourneau, owner of Candy's Curiosities, contacted Police after her store's surveillance footage captured the figure, saying, "It felt personal when it was in my store or in front of my store."
Police issued a press release on Wednesday stating they are "looking into it" while confirming no known threat to public safety and characterizing the incident as isolated in nature.
While the figure's robes lacked specific Klan symbols, the video sparked online debate as commentators like Boilers32 and John Smith discussed the appearance, with the footage continuing to circulate on social media.
