One Killed, Five Injured in Northwest Iowa Boat Collision
Three passengers suffered serious injuries and two minor injuries, and investigators have ruled out alcohol as a factor, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources said.
On Sunday, August 2, one person died and five others were injured when two boats collided near Pillsbury Point on West Lake Okoboji in Dickinson County, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources reported.
All six individuals aboard the affected vessel were wearing personal flotation devices; three passengers sustained serious injuries and two suffered minor injuries in the collision.
DNR investigators have ruled out alcohol as a contributing factor, while no one aboard the second boat sustained injuries during the incident.
Responding agencies, including the Iowa State Patrol and Dickinson County Sheriff's Office, transported all injured individuals to Lakes Regional Hospital and Spencer Hospital.
This incident marks the third fatal boating collision in Iowa within the last month, following fatal crashes on Clear Lake on July 4 and July 30.
