We're ready, says lead of Vancouver's FIFA World Cup host committee
Vancouver is finalizing budgets, security, and facilities upgrades for seven World Cup matches, with training sites nearly complete and accommodations expected to meet fan demand, officials said.
- Yesterday, Jessie Adcock, lead of Vancouver's 2026 FIFA World Cup host committee, said Vancouver, British Columbia is ready with 185 days left and officials will refine safety, security, staffing and traffic plans after the draw.
- Canada joined the co-bid to share some costs and present a unified hosting plan, with FIFA president Gianni Infantino overseeing the game allotment among Canada, the U.S., and Mexico.
- At Killarney Park, Tina Mack said the training site is ahead of schedule and on budget, with turf grown for nearly a year, treated under heat, then moved to create a pitch engineered for safety.
- Calculations with Destination BC and Destination Vancouver show the region will have enough accommodation options, and short-term rental rules let Vancouver homeowners list principal residences for 90 days, Adcock said.
- The turf is the same type, custom grown for the region that the 16 host cities will have across the three nations, and this report by The Canadian Press was first published Dec. 8, 2025.
