Welfare: 7 Million in Extreme Poverty in the Country

According to the Annual Report on the Situation of Poverty and Social Rezago for fiscal year 2026, published yesterday by the Ministry of Welfare in the Official Journal of the Federation, despite the national reduction of poverty recorded in recent years, 7 million people, equivalent to 5.3 per cent of the population, are in extreme poverty. The incidence of this condition is concentrated in the southern and south-eastern states.
