- Olympic alpine skier Lindsey Vonn is rehabilitating from her Winter Olympics injuries with her sister at her side. "Welcome to the Vonn rehab center," Vonn said in a video of her sister walking into the room with crutches.
- On Feb. 8, Vonn crashed during a downhill race at the Milan Cortina Games, suffering a complex tibia fracture and severe trauma that led to compartment syndrome in her leg.
- Team USA orthopedic surgeon Dr. Tom Hackett performed a fasciotomy to salvage Vonn's leg. "He filleted it open and let it breathe, and he saved me," Vonn said.
- Compartment syndrome involves excessive pressure building inside a muscle and can cause permanent injury if untreated quickly. Vonn described the trauma as blood getting stuck that "basically crushes everything."
- On Wednesday, Vonn shared on Instagram that her sister, Karin Kildow, recently tore her ACL after skiing on an injured knee shortly before the Olympics, mirroring Vonn's own pre-Olympic injury.
