Poland Unveils Its New Heavy Infantry Fighting Vehicle
The tracked vehicle uses a Krab-based chassis and the ZSSW-30 turret as Poland targets a running prototype by the end of 2026.
- Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa unveiled its new CBWP heavy infantry fighting vehicle in full for the first time at the MSPO 2026 defense exhibition in Kielce. The demonstrator, built by subsidiary Huta Stalowa Wola, appeared after previously displaying only a scale model.
- Weighing approximately 12 tons more than the Borsuk, which weighs roughly 28 tons, the new vehicle joins the heavy infantry class. It integrates the ZSSW-30 remote-controlled turret, already operational on other Polish platforms.
- Front armor is designed to resist 30x173mm armor-piercing rounds from 500 meters, meeting STANAG 4569 Level 6 standards. The hull accommodates Poland's modular Pangolin explosive reactive armor system for additional defense against anti-tank warheads.
- With a three-person crew and eight dismounted soldiers, the vehicle employs a hunter-killer targeting concept allowing commanders to search for threats while gunners engage targets. This provides fire support to mechanized infantry in direct contact with enemies.
- Following factory trials for the sole operational demonstrator, PGZ expects to construct two fully functional prototypes by 2027. Production readiness is targeted for as early as 2029, contingent on test results and negotiations.

The machine, dubbed CBWP (Ciężki Bojowy Wozo Piechoty, or heavy infantry fighting vehicle), was developed by Huta Stalowa Wola, a subsidiary of PGZ, which produces most of Poland's tracked armored vehicles. PGZ described this machine as having a high level of crew protection, high maneuverability and firepower, which is provided by the remotely controlled turret ZSSW-30.
The CBWP is designed to transport, protect and provide direct fire support to motorized infantry units.
