Apple restores the Apple Watch App Switcher in watchOS 27.2 beta 2, but users must now press and hold the bottom of the screen.
- Apple released watchOS 27.2 beta 2 today, restoring the App Switcher to Apple Watches after its removal in watchOS 27, though the feature returns with a new gesture rather than the previous Digital Crown shortcut.
- In watchOS 27, Apple inexplicably removed the App Switcher, replacing the multitasking tool with a "Dynamic app grid" that prevented users from quickly jumping between recently used applications.
- Users can now press and hold the bottom of the screen while inside an app to access the App Switcher, then turn the Digital Crown to scroll through recently used applications.
- Accessing the switcher currently requires enrolling devices in Apple's beta testing program, while the Walkie-Talkie feature remains officially discontinued and will not return in future updates.
- Official changelogs omitted the addition, leaving uncertainty regarding whether the gesture will make it into the final public build, as the feature appeared in the second beta released less than a week after the first.
