Middle School Students Stop Runaway Bus From Crashing After Driver Blacks Out
Five Hancock Middle School students steered the bus to safety, called 911 and gave the driver medicine after she lost consciousness.
- On Wednesday, five Hancock Middle School students prevented their bus from crashing after driver Leah Taylor lost consciousness while transporting about 40 children in Hancock County, Mississippi.
- The 45-year-old Taylor suffered an asthma attack and blacked out while driving. Student McKenzy Finch recalled, "She kind of, sort of, like, fell over, like flopped over."
- Jackson Casnave grabbed the steering wheel while Darrius Clark hit the brakes, maneuvering the bus to a median. Destiny Cornelius administered Taylor's medicine as Kayleigh Clark dialed 911.
- Taylor has made a full recovery, telling students, "They're the ones that saved my life and everybody else's on that bus." The five were recognized at a pep rally Friday.
- Hancock Middle School Principal Melissa Saucier stated, "This is who our students are at Hancock Middle School," adding the group will receive a celebratory lunch field trip next week.
