The United Nations rights chief voiced alarm Monday at reports of fully autonomous drones killing people in Ukraine, calling for an urgent ban on weapons that can kill without human involvement.
"Ukraine would also have tested such weapons on the ground," Volker Türk also told the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed dismay over reports of a deadly Russian AI-controlled drone strike. The autonomous weapon killed three people in Zaporizhzhia by automatically changing targets just before impact.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said on Monday that he is "abhorred by reports that the Russian army used a piloted drone of artificial intelligence in Ukraine to carry out a deadly autonomous attack.
