Osswald was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Santiago da Espada, the Grand Cross of the Order of Public Instruction, the Commanda, with plaque, of the Order of St Gregory the Great of the Holy See, the Gold Medal of the Ministry of Health and the title of "Doctor Honoris Cause" by the University of Coimbra.
