Wallace Beaten on Points in IBF Title Eliminator
- Ben Whittaker defeated Conor Wallace by unanimous decision at Utilita Arena in Birmingham on Saturday, securing the IBF Light Heavyweight mandatory position with judges scoring 117-111, 116-112, and 115-113.
- Dominating the opening nine rounds, Whittaker built an unassailable lead while Northern Irish-born Australian Wallace failed to turn his early pressure into successful rounds, leaving him needing a dramatic late turnaround.
- Wallace's strongest attack arrived in the final round, rocking a visibly tiring Whittaker; although the home fighter hit the canvas three times, the referee ruled no knockdowns, allowing him to survive.
- Promoter Eddie Hearn suggested Whittaker requires an interim contest before a world title shot next summer, positioning him to fight the winner of Bivol-Smith pending that bout's outcome.
- While Whittaker retained his WBC Silver title, his struggle to survive the 12th round raised questions regarding his readiness for a world championship, and a rematch with Wallace remains a possibility.
