Kraken Parent Payward Explores Crypto and Payments Partnership with BNY
The talks could link BNY’s custody and wealth services with Payward’s crypto, payments and trading businesses as the firms expand into digital-asset infrastructure.
Custody banking giant BNY is in discussions with Payward, the Wyoming-based parent company of crypto exchange Kraken, over a potential partnership spanning digital assets and financial-market infrastructure, according to two people familiar with the matter.
The proposed arrangement could leverage Payward Services, the platform supplying infrastructure to banks and asset managers, potentially mirroring operational work included in Payward's recent Nasdaq agreement.
Potential collaboration areas include crypto custody, wealth management, trading, and payments, while BNY continues developing tokenized deposits designed to support near-real-time onchain settlement between institutional market participants.
Discussions remain ongoing with no guarantee of a final agreement, and both Payward and BNY declined to comment on the talks.
This effort aligns with Payward's strategy to connect digital-asset operations with established financial institutions, following recent acquisitions of NinjaTrader, Bitnomial, and Reap to build a broader financial-services platform.
