Former Wales Fullback Halfpenny to Retire at End of Season
The former Wales fullback ends an 18-year career after 101 caps and four British and Irish Lions Tests, with Cardiff set to be his final club.
On Tuesday, 37-year-old Leigh Halfpenny announced his retirement from professional rugby at the end of the season, concluding his senior career at Arms Park where it began in 2008.
Halfpenny enjoyed an 18-year career, winning 101 caps for Wales and scoring 801 points, alongside four Test appearances for the British and Irish Lions and player of the series in 2013 against Australia.
After playing for Toulon, Scarlets, Crusaders, and Harlequins, Halfpenny returned to Cardiff last year as both a player and kicking coach, though injuries limited him to two matches this season.
"It's always going to be difficult to walk away, but the time feels right as I reflect back on a career I'm grateful for," Halfpenny said, expressing pride in wearing the Wales jersey.
Two regular season fixtures remain in the United Rugby Championship for Cardiff, with potential knockout matches ahead as Halfpenny prepares his final appearances at Arms Park.
The Welsh international career Leigh Halfpenny, who played in Toulon and wore 101 times the Poireau XV jersey, announced on Tuesday that he would retire at the end of the season.
