Nestlé to face retrial over illegal dumping near French bottled water plants
Nestlé Waters is to face a new trial over alleged illegal dumping near its bottled water plants in eastern France, after an appeals court reinstated key scientific evidence excluded from the original proceedings.
The multinational will have to answer for the presence of tons of waste around its bottling plants in the Vosges, according to a decision handed down on Thursday 17 September by the Nancy Court of Appeal, which cancels the trial of first instance.
The Nancy Court of Appeal referred the case "to the Nancy Correctional Court". No judgement will be rendered on the basis of the March hearings.
The Court of Appeal, seized by the civil parties and the Public Prosecutor's Office, was called upon to rule on a decision taken in March, during Nestlé's trial for its wild landfills near Vittel and Contrexéville, to cancel the file and to remove the debates of the expert opinions incriminating the agri-food giant, for defects of form.
