The EU must “make strategic choices today to secure our energy independence for the future,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Tuesday. According to her, this means that the EU must replace fossil fuels with “clean electricity generated here in Europe.”
The energy crisis must be used to accelerate the shift from oil and gas to green electricity, it says.
Europe has paid an additional 100 billion euros since the end of February due to more expensive fossil fuels, Ursula von der Leyen warned.
