VW’s 326-Hp Electric Hot Hatch Is the Most Powerful GTI Ever
The electric hatchback adds a 240 kW rear motor, a 79 kWh battery and GTI-specific styling and cabin upgrades.
- Volkswagen has unveiled the new GTI, an electric performance model replacing the outgoing GTX Performance. The car pairs the body of the updated Neo with the discontinued GTX's drivetrain.
- Powering the GTI is a 240kW/545Nm electric motor and 79kWh battery, delivering a 601km driving range under WLTP testing. This represents a 1km increase over previous versions.
- Inside, the GTI features a 12.9-inch touchscreen and sports steering wheel with a dedicated GTI button unlocking a sportier driving profile. Exterior styling includes 20-inch alloy wheels and distinctive GTI badging on the grille, doors, and tailgate.
- Top speed is electronically limited to 200km/h, while drivers can activate launch control and a sportier chassis setting that adds simulated engine noise. Maximum DC fast charging rates increased to 183kW.
- The European order book opens in early 2027, though Volkswagen local brand director Piergiorgio Minto noted the business case for Australian availability remains difficult due to market bias toward SUVs.
