Police Scotland Urges Men to Be Positive Role Models Amid Rise in Rape Cases
The six-week push targets men 18 to 35 and uses partners across sport, transport and communities to challenge harmful online attitudes.
On Monday, Police Scotland launched its 'That Guy' campaign, calling on men aged 18 to 35 to act as positive role models and counter toxic 'manosphere' influencers spreading harmful attitudes online.
Police Scotland officials termed violence against women and girls a 'national emergency,' citing new figures showing 200 daily reports of such crimes and an 11% increase in recorded rape cases.
Assistant Chief Constable Tim Mairs noted that 'manosphere influencers and social media algorithms can repeatedly expose boys to harmful attitudes,' prompting the campaign's focus on positive male role modeling.
Supporting the initiative, the Scottish Professional Football League and Tennis Scotland joined as campaign partners; Neil Doncaster, SPFL Group Chief Executive, stated the campaign is 'an important reminder' of shared responsibility.
The campaign will expand next year to target younger audiences aged 11 to 14, building on the current six-week initiative to promote respect and healthy relationships among Scotland's youth.
