Vinted side hustle earned mum £2,000 after Maternity Pay slashed her income
Stacey Hillier says the resale app has become a backup fund as maternity pay drops to about £700 a month.
Warwickshire mum Stacey Hillier has earned more than £2,000 selling outgrown items after her monthly earnings dropped from around £3,000 to roughly £700 following maternity leave in January.
Knowing money would be tight, she began saving as soon as she found out she was pregnant, as the dramatic drop forced her to seek additional ways to ease household financial pressure.
Currently receiving statutory pay of around £187 a week, the mum faces rising costs including baby formula at around £11 a tub, with her family getting through one every six days.
Vinted, originally downloaded to declutter, has become her financial "safety net"; she explained, "Having my Vinted balance there as a backup gives me peace of mind."
Children's clothes remain her best sellers, priced at £1 to £3, and she now checks the app before buying expensive items, saving £14 on a £22 set of rompers.
