Vijay's TVK Joins INDIA Bloc as Tamil Nadu Allies Plan to Step up Protest Against CEC
INDIA bloc leaders said 10 district protests and a Chennai demonstration will press their case that democracy is breaking down in India.
On Saturday, the Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam joined the INDIA alliance during a meeting at the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee headquarters in Chennai, described as a historic day for the opposition bloc.
Opposition leaders have intensified their campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and concerns over electronic voting machines.
Demonstrations are scheduled at district headquarters across Tamil Nadu on October 13 and 14, followed by a joint "Save Democracy" protest in Chennai on October 15 to demand Gyanesh Kumar's resignation.
Venugopal described the campaign as a "do-or-die" fight for the Congress, alleging that voters' rights are being undermined through the Election Commission and asserting the need for "saving the democracy of the country."
Beyond Tamil Nadu, the INDIA bloc is organizing protests near Jantar Mantar in Delhi and Shivaji Park in Mumbai, with a larger rally planned in Delhi on November 1 to sustain their campaign.
