Vigil to be held on Parliament Hill today for missing and murdered Indigenous women
Bridget Tolley will lead a vigil and press conference as speakers mark 10 years since Canada launched the national inquiry.
On Tuesday, families and friends of missing and murdered Indigenous women gather on Parliament Hill for a Red Dress Day vigil led by Bridget Tolley, founder of Sisters in Spirit.
Ten years after the launch of the National Inquiry, speakers will commemorate lost loved ones and assess Canada's progress on the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls crisis.
Artist Jaime Black inspired the red dress symbol through an exhibit, previously displaying more than 100 dresses around the University campus in Winnipeg to raise awareness.
Participants plan to hold a press conference alongside the vigil to raise awareness for the National Day recognizing Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirited people.
Similar events occur annually across Canada to emphasize the ongoing crisis, including a walk held in Saskatoon that raised awareness for missing and murdered Indigenous women.
