Dallas ICE agents rushed to protect detainees after shooter Joshua Jahn attacked facility

ICE agents shielded detainees during a sniper attack that killed two detainees; the shooter left anti-ICE notes indicating a targeted attack on immigration enforcement, officials said.

  • On Wednesday a gunman the FBI identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn fired from a nearby rooftop at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Dallas, killing one detainee and critically injuring two before killing himself.
  • Officials said notes show Jahn aimed to terrorize ICE employees, quoting `Hopefully this will give ICE agents real terror, to think, 'Is there a sniper with AP rounds on that roof?'`
  • Surveillance video obtained by Fox News shows ICE agents ducking behind two white transport vans and quickly shuffling shackled detainees inside as gunfire hit the facility.
  • No law enforcement officers were injured, FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge Joseph Rothrock said, while DHS and Karoline Leavitt, White House press secretary, urged an end to dehumanizing rhetoric.
  • The Department of Homeland Security says ICE agents face a 1,000% increase in assaults, officials noted this was the third attack in four months, and online searches on 9/23–9/24 suggest pre-attack planning.
