Video shows dramatic rescue of cat from 100-foot-tall tree
Rescuers used a cut branch as a bridge to save Oak, a cat with a broken leg and frostbite after being trapped over 24 hours post-snowstorm, rescue team said.
- Atop a 100-foot Sweetgum tree, a cat was rescued after more than 24 hours during last weekend's snowstorm, in Essex, Baltimore County, recorded on video.
- Onlookers alerted the Baltimore County Fire Department after Oak, likely a stray from a nearby apartment building, clung to branches during snow, then called a tree climber when help was delayed.
- After lures failed, Dotson cut a branch to create a bridge as Oak jumped off, suffering a broken leg and frostbite, with hopes to avoid surgery, Cannella said.
- Now warm and safe, Oak has already drawn strong interest and will need a few more weeks to recover before adoption, rescue groups said.
- Dotson said `I thought God was calling me to rescue the cat` and praised teamwork in saving Oak, with local neighbors and rescue volunteers showing bravery.
