Russia has released Robert Gilman, a U.S. citizen and former Marine, from captivity at the request of U.S. President Donald Trump, because his health had deteriorated sharply. Gilman was arrested in 2022 after Russian authorities accused him of assaulting a police officer.
The former U.S. Navy Robert Gilman, imprisoned in Russia for four and a half years, was pardoned by Vladimir Putin and released on Tuesday, 11 August. This release, for which the Kremlin leader allegedly did not demand any counterpart, questions the Russian and English-speaking press, which returns to a rocky affair until its conclusion.
