Massive Dead Snake Found Along Side of a Wisconsin Highway. It's Not Native to the Area.
Authorities said the snake died after a medical emergency at a veterinary clinic, and the owner later contacted investigators after a public appeal.
On Thursday, authorities discovered a "very large" dead snake dumped along County Highway Z in IOWA COUNTY, Wisconsin, near Hillside School, prompting an investigation.
Sheriff Michael Peterson noted the animal was likely kept in captivity and stated the manner in which it was left is "concerning and has caused alarm among passing motorists."
In a Friday morning Facebook post, the Iowa County Sheriff's Office said the owner had come forward after the snake experienced a medical emergency at a veterinary clinic and died.
The Iowa County District Attorney is following up with the owner, after Peterson explained "the animal was intended to be buried; however, it was instead placed alongside the roadway."
Peterson thanked members of the public and first responders who assisted in the investigation, concluding the case after the owner's identification and cooperation.
