- Sheila McCorkle, Vice President of Starship Legal and Regulatory at SpaceX, said the Louisiana coast was chosen because it offers "ample gas" and the right trajectories for missions; SpaceX began seeking a new launch site seven years ago.
- The facility will feature five launch pads and create 3,000 permanent jobs with a salary of nearly $93,000, nearly twice the average in Vermilion Parish. Musk expects the site to eventually employ up to 10,000 workers.
- Louisiana sold the property to SpaceX for $100 million using land acquired from ExxonMobil. To break ground next year, the company must secure dozens of permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
- Musk stated the facility is key to making human life "interplanetary" and building civilization outside Earth. SpaceX plans to launch its first rocket by 2029 while holding community meetings in the coming months to address local concerns.
