Delivery Driver's Vehicle Struck by Commuter Rail Train After Getting Stuck on Tracks in Cohasset, Mass
Police said the driver got out before impact, and about 15 passengers and crew were not injured.
On Sunday, an MBTA Commuter Rail train struck a Toyota Camry at the North Main Street grade crossing in Cohasset, Massachusetts, totaling the vehicle, police said.
A 33-year-old Mansfield man delivering packages apparently made a wrong turn onto the railroad tracks, becoming stuck before the collision, according to the Cohasset Police Department.
About 15 passengers were aboard the Greenbush Line train at the time of the collision, and no injuries were reported among passengers or train crew, officials said.
North Main Street was closed for more than two hours while Cohasset Police and MBTA Transit Police investigated; the train stopped just short of the Cohasset MBTA Station.
Cohasset Police Chief William Quigley called the outcome fortunate, saying the driver's decision to exit the vehicle before impact prevented what could have been fatal. Investigators continue examining the incident.
