One Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash Near Nanoose Bay
A 20-year-old passenger died and two others were hospitalized as investigators work to determine the cause, police said.
On Wednesday, a single-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 19 in Nanoose Bay killed one person when the vehicle left the roadway and landed on train tracks near the rest area at 6:45 p.m.
Impairment has been excluded as a contributing factor to the crash, which remains under investigation by the Oceanside RCMP's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services with assistance from the BC Coroners Service.
RCMP confirmed a 20-year-old woman died at the scene, while a 21-year-old passenger was transported to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital in critical condition and the 21-year-old driver sustained minor injuries.
Police closed the northbound lanes of Hwy 19 for several hours while a collision analyst processed the crash scene to conduct a thorough examination of the area.
