Man Arrested After Stealing, Crashing Transit Bus in Kamloops, B.C., RCMP Say

Police say the stolen BC Transit community bus was driven into a pickup truck, leaving no one injured and prompting charges against a Vancouver man.

  • On Saturday, Kamloops RCMP arrested a Vancouver man for allegedly stealing and crashing a Transit bus in downtown Kamloops. Steven Samantha Mehlenbacher, 55, remains in custody following the incident.

  • The suspect drove the bus into a pickup truck in the 500-block of Lansdowne Street around 9:50 p.m. on Saturday. One passenger aboard the bus was uninjured in the collision.
  • Mehlenbacher faces charges of dangerous driving, uttering threats, theft of a motor vehicle, and theft under $5,000. His next court date is set for Tuesday.
  • The collision caused a brief traffic disruption while Police conducted their investigation; authorities closed a stretch of Lansdowne Street for more than two hours on Saturday night.
